If only Marley could talk the stories he would tell. What we know of Marley is he is a racing bred Standardbred. We are tracing down his history so we can know more of his career. That said he is the newest entrant into our aftercare program for new vocations of ex-racers. Marley retired from the track and went to the Amish where he was worked and at some point when he was no longer desired by the Amish he found himself at auction. Purchased out of auction he hit another low stride going to a family under investigation for neglect to a small property not equipped for one horse. There he survived while 2 horses sharing his paddock ended up dying from malnutrition. Marley is truly a survivor--each step of his life taking him to riskier and riskier situations until finally on February 7th he hit a stroke of luck and was saved and able to come to Safe Harbor. Marley is currently in weight and hoof rehab. Once healthy his training evaluation will begin. We will find out if Marley is a pacer or a trotter. We know he is extremely gentle and based on his preferences and strengths we will know which direction to take Marley to assure the remainder of his life is wonderful. He may be able to trot cross rails with a child rider he may be a gentle giant trail horse. Only time will tell. For now Marley can eat relax and give and get all the hugs he needs while he enjoys his newfound rescue life. Marley s adoption fee is set at a preliminary 1 500.
