Exam Rats make great pets they rarely bite and enjoy human interaction. They do however sense and explore their world with their mouth and will nibble if something is directly in front of them. Rats are intelligent loyal and responsive- they can even learn to come when called. Be sure to find a vet in your area that treats rats in case of emergencies and for routine care.Temperament Rats are extremely social animals therefore they love company and should be kept in pairs. Males do best when introduced to each other at a young age. Handling is required daily to maintain confidence and sociability. Teach children how to handle properly. Be careful when taking them in and out of the cage so their tails and paws do not get caught in the doors. NEVER PICK UP A RAT BY THE TAIL.Habitat Provide a large cage with bar spacing no wider than 1 2 inch. The cage should have a solid bottom and multiple levels. Rats enjoy hammocks and hiding spaces.
