Birch is a sweet and friendly young Lhasa Apso or Shihtzu weighing about 13 lbs who is available for adoption now He is about a year old maybe 2 at the oldest but is still a playful pup. He is a great buddy around the house and will make you smile a ton with his happy attitude. This playful pup would love a family with another dog to play with older gentle kids or at least someone to play with him.. And if you have to leave he will be waiting to greet you at the door when you get home with lots of tail wags Birch had a tough start in life. When we first saw Birch at the shelter he was in need of a rescue to help him due to the condition he was found in. As incredibly uncomfortable as he was he still had lots of tails wags and love to show us. He wanted to be loved and to see his severely neglected condition was heart breaking. His coat skin and eyes were in bad shape from lack of proper grooming food and likely being kept outside all of the time so he had a lot of healing to do and is well on his way to getting a fluffy coat back. He had a very deep ulcer in one eye from it being matted over as well. His eye is looking GREAT now and he has healed beautifully thanks to his foster mom for taking such great care of him. He should stay on quality grain free food for the rest of his life. Birch loves others dogs and is also friends with the kitties. He isn t overly needy. He likes to be with you and watch Netflix on the couch snuggle a bit and hang out get rubs and loves walks a few times a week and all that but isn t a dog that wants or NEEDS to be on your lap all the time or held 24 7. His breed can overheat easily They need to be kept cool and walked when it s not too hot out. They also require regular grooming and brushing to avoid painful matting.Birch is working on potty training and doing very well with it. He was unsure of being in the house likely being outdoors only but that is changing very quickly. He is doing well with the dog door too. We rate him for a home with gentle kids no younger than 7 as he has learned to trust a lot but may not be best for tiny children who may be rough with him and these breeds don t always make the best dogs for little ones.
