Hi My name is Dr. John Watson but you can just call me Watson. On the surface I m kind of a punk. But once you get to know me I m just a scared baby who wants to be loved. I am a 1 year old Chiweenie mix. I was a stray living on the streets of LA for my whole life and because of this I am scared of new things. Because of my very small (and short ) stature my coping mechanism when I get scared is to try to make myself appear bigger and scarier (although I really don t mean anything by it ). Once I am comfortable in a situation I am playful curious and love being held and having my belly rubbed. I enjoy going for walks and sitting on my foster mom s lap. I know how to sit and am working on other obedience skills like wait and down. Due to my past I do have a really hard time meeting new people. It scares me when strangers come into my house because I never felt safe before I came here and I m scared that when new people come in they might take away my soft bed and warm blankets. I was severely underweight when I was rescued and have been off the streets for 3 months now and am just starting to realize I don t need to constantly be worrying about when my next meal will be. I do enjoy the company of other dogs once I get to know them and realize they aren t trying to hurt me or chase me away from my safe and loving home. I am fine seeing people on the street as long as they don t pay attention to me. I take a long time to warm up and will bark at people if they get too close to me too fast. My forever family will need to understand my behavior and be willing to work with me and be patient with me and teach me some better coping skills for my anxiety. My ideal home would be one without children and without a lot of chaos I am very sensitive to change. It would also have a securely fenced yard because I enjoy spending time by myself laying in the sun or hunting for bugs in the grass. I also will play with my toys by myself in the yard throwing them and catching them all on my own since for most of my life I was my only friend. I may do okay with a confident (and larger) cat. Since I am only 1 year old I still have a lot of life left in me to learn that the world isn t such a scary place After only 3 months in my foster home I have made leaps and bounds toward being a well mannered member of society. Once settled in my forever home with my forever human I will quickly warm up and enjoy days sitting on your lap playing fetch with an extra small tennis ball and going for leisurely walks Oh and I m house trained too Despite my hard exterior when you first meet me make no mistake about it I am sweet and cuddly and as soon as you sit down I will come running toward you with abandon to score a spot on your lap.
