Pearl - Female Poodle (Toy or Tea Cup) Mix

Pearl is lovely young dog mostly poodle who is currently very scared at the shelter. She does not trust people without a great deal of effort on their part at least in her current surroundings. It took a long time to make headway with her in the kennel but she did start to come around.It appears that Pearl attaches strongly to her person and uses that person for safety. She lacks trust and confidence but tends to move away rather than warning by going towards the offender. However she is difficult to leash unleash and handle with new people. She is more likely to bite in these physically close situations.She needs to meet more new people and rely on them instead of having one person who is her safety to be more adoptable but maybe when she is living in a foster home instead of a shelter she will relax enough to be more trusting.Pearl was reactive to larger dogs she met here barking and lunging. With smaller dogs she had conflict between wanting to play and wanted to get away from the other dog. She was like that at first with the dogs in her foster home but ended up more playful.Children would make Pearl s home more difficult because she is fearful of sudden movements and noises.Perhaps her second appearance at an evaluation will show that she is coming around more quickly now. She needs more positive experiences with people.Perhaps she can be adopted from foster and stay away from the scary shelter If she continues to improve in foster and does well with other people in different situations including coming to visit etc it would be well worth it.
