Apple (an American Crested gp) and Teddy were both bought at a pet store but unfortunately a family member became allergic to them (or maybe their hay ). They are bonded and must be adopted together. They are both shy but quickly getting used to people. Please note that Apple has an extra toe on his back right foot..that nail MUST be clipped with the others so it doesn t overgrow into his foot and cause pain.Make sure that Apple and Teddy each have their own hiding box. GP s enjoy chewing on wicker and wooden toys blocks that you can get at pet stores. They also like to chew on toilet paper rolls that can also be stuffed with hay. They do not need treats or salt licks.Both boy s were very squirmy while getting their nails trimmed. Since nails need to be trimmed about every 4-6 months they should get more used to it. They will need time outside of their cage every day (inside of course). Find a safe area in your home where they can t get caught behind something or crawl into a small space..like a long hallway or a small bathroom. Put some towels down in case they potty and it ll help with traction. This helps move food through their body and keeps their muscles stronger.They should be picked up with both hands because they have very delicate spines and bodies. If not held properly or dropped they can easily be injured.Their cage must be at least this big or bigger. It should not be placed near heat or drafts. It must be cleaned every 2-3 days so they stay healthy and it won t get smelly. (See Teddy s write-up for more care feeding information.)
