Sophie - Female Great DaneLabrador Retriever Mix

When shelter staff attempted to assess Sophie or take her for a walk she pancaked meaning she flattened on the floor and would not budge. Just think how scared you might be locked up in a jail cell not knowing why you are there and where your family is located. Poor Sophie was placed on the euthanasia list for fear . We thought that s not right and went to the shelter to pick her up.When Sophie first came to her foster home she was on the fearful and skittish side. Though she truly wanted contact she would stiffen when touched. At the rescue Sophie paired off with another lab named Rose and shares the same foster home. She will miss her friend but she has made great strides in achieving independence. With an experienced adopter to help her through the transition she will be fine with or without a dog companion. She is affectionate to dogs she knows licking etc.Sophie needs an understanding family who will be patient and encouraging with her. She initially shied away from the leash but now really comes alive on walks and enjoys playing. She can sit lay down and stand up. Sophie seldom barks unless the other dogs start up. Sophie is not at all destructive and does not chew on anything except her ball.Sophie is very calm indoors (a homebody) and will help herself to an open space on a couch or bed. We shoo her off the beds but frequently find her on one. Sophie has a serious and tentative disposition but does surprise us with bursts of energy and enthusiasm. When she sees us petting and playing with our other dogs she immediately comes over and butts in not wanting to miss out. The one place Sophie really comes alive is at the park and she truly enjoys playing fetch. The big surprise with her was that after many weeks of just watching the other dogs play she bolted up and beat all the other dogs to the ball. Though not at all aggressive she s a powerful dog that doesn t hesitate to throw her weight around when competing for the ball. After a few tries other dogs may avoid playing with this linebacker. Sophie is very athletic and fit and is accustomed to walking daily and playing fetch at the park.Sophie has never gotten out or run to explore on her own at the park where she goes every morning she is very content to stay with her pack. She is not scent driven but is attentive to small sounds and will alert you if she thinks anything is amiss. Sophie eats gently from your hand and is house and crate trained and hops easily in and out of the car.Once you crack Sophie s shell she will come running with a wagging tail and kisses. She is ready to meet her new family and will come with her favorite ball )Sophie is spay up to date on vaccines and microchipped. She weighs approximately 65-70 lbs. Her adoption donation of 250 will help us purchase food and medical supplies for other dogs living with the rescue. Our adoption process includes an application interview home visit and meet and greet with your family and any other pets.
