She was emaciated covered in scabs and she had large areas of hair loss with inflammation infection. Moon was placed in a foster home and immediately taken to a vet (spayed microchipped treated for skin infection etc). However Moon was deemed unadoptable after biting her foster mom 1 week into her new journey. That rescue group placed her at a Vet Clinic for 10 days of rabies quarantine followed with euthanasia. However in her 10 day boarding Moon worked her way into the kind hearts of the docs and clinic staff. While at the clinic she was excellent with the staff who went very slowly with her. She was in no way outwardly aggressive but they used caution in handling her anyway. After her 10 day period the vet could not force herself to euthanize this big polar bear dog. Instead she took Moon home in the hope of rehabilitating her.Moon has now seen a Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorist (Dr. Amanda Florsheim) and has been diagnosed with Fear Aggression . In other words she feels threatened by new people more easily than most dogs due to her history of abuse. When threatened dogs respond with either a fight or flight response. In Moon s case her instinct is to fight which manifests itself as lashing out at the person by whom she feels threatened.Fortunately there is hope for Moon. Since entering her new foster home she has bonded with the doctor and her husband. She plays and she is such a goof about it She snuggles with them and loves kisses. They can move her food or take her bone with no problems. She loves walks even though she is the slowest walker She will even rough house play with her without any signs of aggression. If she gets too rowdy tell her easy and she settles down. She is very responsive and smart. We have learned two very important things about Moon 1) She feels threatened easily by new people and has a low threshold of tolerance for them particularly men. 2) However once given the chance to get used to a new person on her own time WITHOUT that person getting into her face or in any way pushing her Moon will bond and is an extremely sweet protective loyal fun dog. Thus Moon needs a home with someone that is patient and understands dogs. Someone who wants a big lovable loyal teddy-bear type dog but is willing to give her the time she needs to be comfortable.Moon s Medical History Moon has been spayed fully vaccinated dewormed microchipped and has had a full bloodwork panel run. The bloodwork included a chemistry panel complete blood count thyroid (total T4) heartworm test and urinalysis. All results were normal and the heartworm test was negative. Moon has been on Heartgard to prevent heartworms and Nexgard to prevent fleas ticks. Since her rescue she has gained weight and is now a whopping 90 pounds She has also regrown all of her hair and now has a healthy coat and healthy skin. Moon has several chronically broken canines and incisors presumably from chewing on bars or rocks previous to her rescue. She also takes Prozac (Fluoxetine) to help with her fear anxiety as we work to desensitize her to her fears. To see some funny videos of Moon being a big goofball contact ----XX(at)---.The adoption fee for all of our dogs is 250.00 which includes vaccinations and spay neuter.Moon is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster not by DFWRM....
