This floofy orange kid is Gallifrey. He was a stray that was found to have a Stage 5 (out of 6) ventricular septal defect (VSD) meaning there is a hole in the septum (wall) between the ventricles of the heart. Oxygenated and non-oxygenated blood is mixing in his heart. His heart and lungs have to work harder to compensate. There is no surgery in cats to fix. He has had four ultrasounds echo-cardiograms in the past two years and each one shows that his heart is enlarged but there is no fluid around his heart and lungs but continues to show the defect. Gallifrey will continue to need ultrasounds echo-cardiograms from the cardiac specialist every year to monitor the progress of his heart and lungs and he will need to stay on his medication for the rest of his life. This is in addition to his regular yearly vet visits. Gallfrey acts like any other kitty. He is a happy and loving kitty that loves to run and play under supervision and run and play and run and play. Did I mention he loves to run and play He loves his cat buddies and knows that dogs can be friends. He absolutely ADORES kittens Gallifrey enjoys his toys too. He loves to sit on the couch with you and watch movies. Gallifrey will steal your pizza and popcorn too.
