2001 Thomas Bus Fred Rogers RV - The bus has a Cummins Diesel Engine (The highly desirable Cummins 6BTA 12 valve 5.9 liter) with about 133 000 miles on it automatic transmission and the Cummins Diesel Generator has 2 412 hrs. The bus runs great and I ve never had any problems with it. Likewise I ve never had any problem with the generator and it runs flawlessly as well. It has two roof air conditioners heaters in addition to a couple of other coach area heaters. The bus has a refrigerator a microwave a cell phone booster amp system router and has a hard wired ethernet system TV PA and it has an awning. It is also equipped with a functional wheelchair elevator in the rear area with a custom sliding bookshelf wall segment to conceal it when it was not being used. This bus has history and even has a name Mo . I bought the bus Mo in 2018 from the Latrobe Pennsylvania Adams Public Library. The bus was ordered by one of Latrobe s most famous natives Mr. Fred Rogers and was custom built as a bookmobile by Matthews Specialty Vehicles. Incidentally if you re looking at the pictures and see legendary golfer Arnold Palmer he is another Latrobe native and he purchased the Cummins Diesel Generator which is on-board. Likewise these men used their celebrity influence to grant Mo special Latrobe Airport clearance so it could be garaged each evening in the airport hangar. As I drove away from Latrobe the day I bought Mo a small group of people gathered outside the library and waved bye to Mo taking pictures and some cried. I remember thinking that I wasn t too sure how I felt about that. I m familiar with celebrities riding in buses but in this case the bus was the celebrity. After driving Mo back to Kentucky I converted it from a bookmobile into a portable office and it sat at a project site for a year but now that project is over and I really don t need the bus so I decided to sell it. With little modification it could be finished out and completely converted into a motor home or even restored to a bookmobile. Most of the bookmobile shelving is still in place and the woodwork is all white oak. The bus has extensive records and was meticulously cared for and cared about. The paperwork shows that the woodwork alone cost close to 40 000 of the nearly 300 000 Mr. Rogers foundation paid for the bus in order to donate it to his hometown library. The woodwork was commissioned to match the Latrobe Library s woodwork exactly and it was completed and installed by one of North Carolina s top custom wood workers and cabinet makers. Matthews Specialty Vehicles had to put extra people on the project because Mr. Rogers wanted the bus finished and delivered in time to lead the Latrobe 4th of July parade in 2001. It arrived two hours before the parade began and Fred Rogers was exuberant and stated It s a Yankee Doodle Dandy birthday for Mo. Sadly Mr. Rogers only lived another year and a half afterwards but that July 4th was a good day for him and the bus named Mo was christened into service helping kids obtain books to read and to learn. I m asking 25 000 OBO for a well-cared for custom bus that is built like a tank and runs like new. This bus would make a fantastic motorhome and has a variety of possibilities. Thank you for looking.
