Home Care Aide Job Duties Monitors patient condition by observing physical and mental condition. Intake and output and exercise. Supports patients by providing housekeeping and laundry services. Shopping for food and other household requirements Preparing and serving meals and snacks Running errands. Home Care Aides need to be strong and physically fit because you will at times need to lift patients into and out of their beds chairs or bathtubs. Also it will be necessary to lift and turn bed-ridden patients to prevent bedsores. Assistants should be careful when attempting to physically lift or move a client so they don t injure themselves in the process. Lifting devices found in hospitals and care facilities are seldom found in patients homes. Home care assistants may work alone with their clients much of the time. Discretion is another important quality of home care assistants because they will be employed within the customer s private residence.Not only do assistants help their clients physically but also psychologically. In the course of doing their jobs home care assistants can provide needed companionship. If clients have problems or concerns they need to talk about assistants can lend an ear and let their clients know they re being listened to. It s not unusual for assistants to form a bond with the patients they care for on a regular basis. It s possible to work for the same client for several years. Training RequirementsProven working experience as Home Care Aide Familiarity with basic nutrition and personal hygiene standards Proficiency in English Caring and Compassionate personality Current CPR certificate First Aid training Valid Drivers License High School Diploma
