LANTERN - Nautical &ndash 12&rdquo Brass Starboard Navigation -

More Nautical Items to Come - Note My User IDI am offering an original (not a reproduction) Starboard Navigation (Running) Lantern which is required on all vessels while underway at night. The 112 dioptric green lens has turned to a bluish green because of the manganese used as the glass clearing agent between 1860 and 1915. Based on the quality design and materials used it was most likely built in the early 1900s by the National Marine Lighting Company based in New York. The lantern measures 12 tall x 8 wide x 7 deep. It has two lens guards and an oil font assembly including the wick. The lens has the typical chips but is very solid. This nautical artifact is a prime example of U.S. maritime history.
