The ChallengeWe are looking for an Assistant Resident Engineer to join our Elizabeth City Construction team. In this role you will Manage the daily operations of NCDOT engineering construction projects. Directly supervise and provide engineering support to engineering technicians. Provide public relation responses to inquiries from NCDOT officials government agencies and the public. Conduct daily coordination with contractors and NCDOT project teams. Make field engineering decisions. Conduct environmental reviews and manage erosion control efforts. Perform contract administration (estimates supplemental agreements claims correspondence submittals monthly construction meetings ensuring environmental compliance etc). Monitor and resolve traffic control issues as they occur. Coordinate utility relocations. Review materials test results and initiate penalties. Train coordinate and supervise lower-level engineering technicians. What You BringExperience reading and interpreting highway construction plans and contracts. Experience and ability to direct assist or train engineering technicians. Experience understand explain and administer contracts (estimates supplemental agreements claims correspondence submittals monthly construction meetings ensures environmental compliance etc.). Knowledge of Civil Engineering principles and best practices. Knowledge and understanding of general concepts practices and theories used in construction construction inspection and or construction surveying. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and construction methods materials and equipment. Ability to interpret construction plans provisions standards and specifications. Excellent teamwork and communication skills to build and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers contractor s staff and the public. Ability to make field engineering decisions. Ability to work in extreme weather and terrain conditions. Additional ExpectationsSafety toe shoes are required within 30 days of hiring. Night and weekend work may be required. Note We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
