The ChallengeWe are looking for 5 transportation workers to join our Madison County Maintenance team. In this role you will Perform preventive maintenance repair and construction of State-maintained roads and roadside features. Install traffic and erosion control devices. Operate hand and power tools. Clear right of ways. Repair pavement. Assist with pipe installation and drainage tasks. Inventory materials. Inspect contract work. Operate heavy equipment. Transport inmates for work details. What You BringAbility to repeatedly lift 80 pounds. Able to work on uneven surfaces and slopes. Experience operating power tools such as chainsaws weed eaters skill saws drills compactors or jackhammers. A commercial driver s license (CDL). CDL can be obtained through on-the-job training with a 60-day grace period to obtain CDL Permit and 90 days to obtain full CDL license. Experience operating at least one of the following air compressor forklift dump truck vibrator roller compactor front end loader backhoe tractor trailer truck mounted crane lattice crane rubber tire excavator tractor with attachment auger or track excavator asphalt distributor asphalt tanker chip spreader crawler tractor motor grader scraper track loader widening machine asphalt paving machine track excavator computer controlled pesticide applicator paint machine tug boat Notes You will be exposed to all types of weather conditions. This role is subject to Emergency call back and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances. An inmate card approved by the NC Department of Public Safety must be issued to NCDOT employees to transport inmates. To get an inmate card you must undergo a criminal history check complete training and orientation and be 21 years old. You must be able to complete all mandatory safety courses to establish work zones with traffic control devices such as temporary signs cones drums etc. within 6 months of hire.
