The NC STEM Policy FellowshipNC Sea Grant partnered with the Burroughs Wellcome Fund and host offices to fund the NC STEM Policy Fellowship program providing opportunities starting in August 2022 with the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and 4 other NC State departments. The fellowships provide opportunities for STEM-related graduate students to gain leadership experience contribute to public service and advance their careers. Your fellowship includes a stipend reimbursement for health insurance associated travel and training opportunities totaling 54 500. Professional development networking opportunities for fellows are available through a partnership with Sigma Xi the international honor society of science and engineering starting with a policy bootcamp in Summer 2022. Your ChallengeAre you a graduate student from a North Carolina college university seeking a leadership opportunity focused on Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) policy issues In this full-time one year fellowship you will get to work with high-level state government leaders to make an impact and advance your career. As a global leader advancing the smart transportation revolution NCDOT places a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility. In this fellowship you will work with our Deputy Secretary of Intergovernmental Affairs to help assess the challenges and opportunities with decarbonization of the transportation sector. You may assist with policy development and make recommendations to support our NC Clean Transportation Plan and transportation-related goals. What You BringYou must Have a passion for helping set state national STEM policy decisions and an interest in Clean Transportation. Receive your master s or doctoral degree between July 31 2021 and Dec 31 2022. Receive a STEM or STEM-related degree at a North Carolina college or university. Students are eligible regardless of nationality. Domestic and international students may apply. Application RequirementsThe following materials are required Resume (not to exceed two pages). A career-goal statement emphasizing your fellowship expectations related to your career interests (< 1 000 words 12-point font and 1 margins). 2 letters of recommendation including 1 from an academic mentor.
