The ChallengeWe re looking for an Electronics Technician to join our Traffic Survey team. Our team conducts specialized traffic data collection and analysis using our Traffic Monitoring System (TMS). On this team you will help us use TMS to manage activities related to developing planning processing analyzing and reporting. The traffic monitoring data you will help us install maintain and manage our electronic systems whose data is used for Systems planning for urban and rural planning studies Validation of travel demand models Analysis for air quality conformity Project prioritization Traffic forecasting Pavement monitoring Safety analysis Commercial motor vehicle enforcement Research In this role you will Learn and use our TMS system for designing managing planning collecting analyzing and publishing traffic monitoring data. Maintain repair inspect and test our traffic data collection equipment. Perform basic- to moderately-complex maintenance activities on portable traffic counters in our electronics shops and on site at permanent traffic monitoring equipment located throughout NC. Support our Electronics Shop and Electronics Monitoring Systems. Monitor contractor activities and inspect contractor work for compliance with specifications of unit contracts. Support our shop operations including equipment maintenance and testing inventory control management and supplies maintenance to support field operations. Travel attend meetings and work with field staff when needed. Travel to monitor contractor activities. Work at the roadside in a wide range of environmental conditions where heavy traffic flows occur. Operate an aerial device for installation and maintenance of various equipment. Provide site maintenance including cutting clearing and trimming of trees bushes. framing digging trenching and installing concrete by hand when installing and maintaining our concrete site pads. What You BringExperience in the detection diagnosis and repair of electro-mechanical and electronic equipment using standard and specialized electronic testing equipment. Computer skills in Microsoft Office(especially Word Excel & Outlook). Good verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and effectively. Knowledge of chemistry related to soldering the interconnection of dissimilar metals and electronic components cleaning. Knowledge of the fundamentals of physics related to electronics including concepts such as capacitance resistance and signal processing. Knowledge of how to build and configure electronic devices with monitoring sensors data recording equipment and communication devices into a fully functional system. Strength to lift and carry 80 pounds. Ability to use hand and power tools. Able to travel anywhere in the State that occasionally includes overnight travel extended periods of time and unusual work hours. Ability to operate a vehicle. Valid driver s license. Education & ExperienceAssociate s degree in Electronics and 1 year experience in the repair and maintenance of specialized electronic devices preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification or An equivalent combination of training and experience.
