NEW HIGHER SALARY 69 236.00 - 135 010.00 The ChallengeWe are looking for a State Traffic Electronics Engineer to join our Transportation Systems Management & Operations team in our Raleigh HQ. In this role you will Oversee daily operations of our Traffic Electronics Center (TEC) and supervise several Transportation Engineers and Electronics Technicians. Track order and stock required components and materials to perform expected bench repairs and acquire new test and calibration equipment and fixtures. Assign work to staff and prepare calibration and maintenance schedules. Manage our budget and make necessary budget staffing adjustments to accommodate additional workload and added variety of equipment as it is added. Review and approve payroll time charges and expense reports. Assess develop and provide staff training. Manage the recruitment hiring of new staff. Prepare annual estimates of required resources and related budgetary needs for the TEC including staffing facilities furnishings repair equipment test equipment component parts vehicle requirements and other operating needs. Oversee the maintenance and development of our TEC Database to improve our operations. The TEC database is used to evaluate and improve overall TEC output provide a record of bench repair and parts data management. Prepare and present monthly TEC performance reports to the ITS & Signals Management Engineer and unrepaired equipment reports to the Highway Divisions. Assist Division Resident Engineers and their staff with portions of the contract administration process to ensure compliance with contract provisions making certain that documentation equipment and training have been successfully delivered prior to payment for related items. Correspond with contractors vendors and manufacturers during and after the installation of traffic control equipment to obtain documentation (manuals schematics test and operating software etc.) fixtures equipment components training and technical support to ensure peak performance of equipment and systems. Conduct staff performance reviews including identification of areas for improvement and working to provide training and opportunities to address areas of improvement. Draft signal and ITS equipment contracts and work with Procurement to execute contracts. Track and maintain sufficient stock of pertinent product inventory at the Central Equipment Depot. Manage the ITS & Signals Qualified Products List (QPL) including the assessment approval denial and removal of equipment from the list as well as establishing product review checklists. What You BringDemonstrated ability to work with NCDOT staff municipalities private engineering firms and contractors. Experience supervising permanent employees contractors and or consultants. Understanding of civil electrical and electronics engineering principles and practices related to the design construction operation and maintenance of traffic signals and ITS devices. Knowledge and understanding of electrical and electronic diagrams schematics symbols manuals parts and associated documentation. Experience writing memos reports specifications and emails that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts. Education and ExperienceBachelor s degree in engineering and 4 years of relevant experience and 2 years of supervisory experience or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
