NEW HIGHER SALARY 49 158 - 86 026 The ChallengeWe are hiring an experienced accountant to join our Financial Management Federal Funds team. In this role you will Manage the closing process of all NCDOT federal funded projects. Monitor project inactivity to avoid loss of federal dollars by working with reports submitted by the Federal Highway Administration while adhering to quarterly deadlines. Use your computer and data analytics skills in our SAP Financial Accounting System and Federal Highway s FMIS accounting systems used to verify that expenditure distributions allocations and receipts are correctly posted prior to closing. Close all locally-administered projects with Federal Funds to ensure project closeout is performed timely and billings to municipalities have been properly made prior to closeout. Support Accounts Receivables with Local Agreements on federal projects. Communicate and provide support to those throughout NCDOT and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) by providing assistance and resolving problems. Assist management with audits by state and federal agencies by gathering information and attending meetings. What You BringDemonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex Federal State fiscal regulations analyze financial data to review process and correct accounting entries and make adjustments in accounting systems and procedures. Excellent communications skills to build effective working relationships with business and program staff. Management experience to supervise work of junior accounting staff including expressing yourself clearly verbally and in written forms to management and non-management staff. Considerable knowledge of accounting principles and practices and considerable knowledge of government accounting methods procedures and financial practices with an understanding of information systems. Computer skills and experience in Microsoft Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to coordinate with information system staff and end-users to solve problems impeding the functionality of our SAP R 3 online database. Education & ExperienceBachelors degree in accounting or a Bachelors degree in business administration finance public administration or related discipline and 18 semester hours of accounting and 2 years of accounting auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive analytical accounting financial statements and reports or An equivalent combination of training and experience.
