The ChallengeWe re looking for an Traffic Analysis Engineering Technician to join our Traffic Survey Group (TSG) - a specialized traffic data collection and analysis group managing our Traffic Monitoring System (TMS) comprised of a Continuous Coverage and Project Count Program for meeting NCDOT general traffic data requirements. Traffic monitoring data is used to support systems planning for urban rural planning studies validate travel demand models analyze air quality conformity project prioritization traffic forecasting pavement monitoring safety analysis commercial motor vehicle enforcement research and is widely used by other state agencies local governments and the public. TSG manages all activities related to developing planning processing analyzing and reporting required in TMS. We are leading the design management planning data collection analysis and publishing of traffic monitoring intelligence. In this role you willPerform technical tasks related to planning processing analyzing and publishing generated traffic monitoring data to meet FHWA s reporting requirements and support NCDOT transportation planning activities to maintain our Traffic Monitoring System. Review and analyze short-term and continuous traffic monitoring data sets such as volume class speed and weight on a daily weekly monthly basis. Process and analyze small to large data sets and perform low- to high-level quality control and quality assurance. Evaluate traffic trends investigate data issues add edit retire station points review analysis of fellow teammates and communicate with other team members to address traffic data collection and equipment performance and efficiency concerns. Supply traffic monitoring data sets that include seasonal data vehicle class data annual average daily traffic data and other information for individual and groups of traffic monitoring stations. Perform traffic station edits in Traffic Survey s operating applications systems. Communicate with the public and users to provide data for Traffic Data Requests. What You BringKnowledge of statistics and the application of statistics to traffic data analysis quality control. Demonstrated ability to identify and investigate data anomalies in large complex data sets while being detail-oriented. Demonstrated ability to plan organize and performs tasks of low to high complexity set short and long-term goals and to prioritize daily work. NotesSteel toe shoes are required. We may require work during non-traditional work hours including nights weekends holidays and times of emergency. Valid state driver s license is preferred. Education & ExperienceAssociate s degree in Civil Engineering Technology Survey Technology or a related discipline or An equivalent combination of training and experience.
