The ChallengeWe are looking for a welder to join our Elkin Bridge Maintenance team. In this role you willWeld using acetylene and electric arc welding equipment in the repair and replacement of bridge structures. Fabricate bridge parts such as caps bearing plates diaphragms post blocks and rail components. Cut and fit steel to very close tolerances for repairing steel I-beams piles to proper lengths and caps to proper heights. Perform basic carpentry work. Pour and finish concrete. Tie reinforcing steel and set I-beams. Performs lay outs cuts and fit material for welding. Examine parent metals and alloys in order to determine the strength heating properties and amount of heat to be applied. Operates acetylene and electric arc welding equipment to permanently fuse structural elements during repairs. Assemble and disassemble steel elements to be repaired or replaced on bridges. Design and fabricate without blueprints drawings or instructions. Perform transportation (bridge) work when welding is not needed. What You BringWelding Skills and a using a cutting torch. Ability to read and interpret detailed blueprints and bridge plans. Knowledgeable about how skews grades and super elevations affect fabrication. Working knowledge of the principles and methods of oxygen acetylene cutting and electric ARC MIG and TIG welding. Demonstrated ability to layout cut and fit material for welding. Experience performing welding and cutting tasks including repair modification maintenance and fabrication. Experience dismantling and reassembling welded parts. Demonstrated ability working from and following verbal and written directions drawings and reproducing broken items. Working knowledge of the heating properties of alloys and parent metals. Ability to follow blueprints drawings and verbal written instructions. Physical strength and ability to move relatively heavy objects and perform manual labor tasks for short periods of time. Ability to work extended hours in all weather and terrain conditions. Ability to operate a State vehicle. Maturity to promote a safe working environment. An AWS welding Certification to use 1 A36 Steel Plates and AWS Group 4 Electrodes in all positions. NotesYour work may require overnight travel. You must have or obtain a Class A Commercial Driver s License within 90 days of hire. If you don t have one you must have a permit within 30 days of hire. We will conduct a pre-employment drug screening and a background check with your previous employers for the past 2 years regarding controlled substance and alcohol testing. Education & ExperienceHigh School GED diploma and 2 years experience in acetylene or electric Arc welding or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
