The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Engineer to join our Airport Development team that manages state and federal grant programs and provides technical assistance for infrastructure development at NC s 72 public airports. NCDOT Aviation promotes the economic well-being of North Carolina by developing a safe and robust air transportation system. Awe drive aerospace development state and federal airport development grant programs unmanned aircraft systems safety and use aviation safety education and training and air transportation that advances state agency missions. In this role you will Participate in the Aviation Development team s administration and supervision of the State Aid to Airports Program and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Block Grant Program for North Carolina. Work with public airports and provide support with airport planning design construction and maintenance. Conduct periodic statewide reviews to determine airport system improvements status evaluate the need for additional projects or modified program emphasis and evaluate designs proposals from private engineering firms government agencies to determine the most economical solution for airports. Be heavily involved in the FAA Block Grant Program contract process. Support Division outreach initiative by presenting to stakeholder groups on Aviation Division activities impact and providing data information used to create presentations and reports. Participate in and contribute to the Aviation Division s strategic planning tracking and reporting activities focused on advancing NCDOT s vision and mission. What You BringA broad working knowledge of planning and engineering principles used in airport-related engineering and the ability to use it in practice. Areas of interest include aviation earthmoving drainage paving electrical systems navigational aids environmental and record keeping for projects. Considerable knowledge in engineering project planning design and administration. Knowledge of airport facilities operations and maintenance. Ability to provide engineering and technical assistance to local governments on airport aviation needs. Excellent communication skills in public speaking technical writing and conflict resolution. A strong background in project management contracts bid process SAP contract functions and customer service. Experience planning developing scheduling tracking and completing engineering projects independently or with limited supervision. Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems and working in a team environment to complete assignments. Experience resolving customer service problems involving complex engineering concepts to diverse stakeholder groups. Computer skills in Microsoft Office SAP CADD Microsoft Project Scheduling and GIS. Management PrefersCandidates trained by FAA or educational institutions on airport planning design and administration. Applicants with a background in aviation such as a pilot s certificate. NoteWe may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
