The ChallengeWe are hiring 2 entry-level hard-working transportation workers to join our Statesville Bridge Maintenance team to perform technical and labor-intensive work in the maintenance and repairs of Division 12 state-owned bridges culverts and pipes. In this role you will Learn and apply your journey-level skills in many areas including equipment operation pile driving carpentry concrete work machine operation contract inspect repair of culverts bridges large pipe bulkheads and pile clusters sandblasting painting and demolition work. Also learn and apply your skills in welding structure inspection trenching shoring lead paint removal steel fabrication and steel beam repair installation and maintenance of erosion control. Attend training and continuing education classes to keep up to date on all state federal regulations and maintain certifications in required areas (i.e. traffic control and environmental stewardship). What You BringA team player who can work in a close team environment and independently. Experience doing manual labor and ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Experience using small hand tools including shovels rakes brooms posthole diggers hammers screwdrivers and torches. An excellent work ethic with good ability to listen be safe and follow verbal and written instructions. No fear of heights. NotesYou will work in a variety of working environments in all types of weather conditions including being exposed to briars poisonous plants spiders and snakes when working around or under bridges. When traffic volumes are high you may be required to work nights or weekends. When bad weather happens we may need you to work nights weekends to help in the snow ice removal. You must obtain or have a Class A commercial driver license with Tanker Endorsement within 90 days of hire. A pre-employment drug test is required. We will do a background check with your last 2 years of employers about drugs alcohol. Safety toe footwear is required. You must be able to obtain and maintain an inmate card.
