The ChallengeWe are looking for an auditor to join our NCDOT Office of Inspector General Consultant Utility Rail & Turnpike team in our Raleigh headquarters. The contracts and grants audited reviewed will be varied and complex and are primarily with consultants railroads utilities local governments and non-profit organizations. In this role you will Lead complex compliance and financial-related audits of activities related to external entities contracted with NCDOT. Perform pre-award audits overhead audits post-award audits and review audits performed by independent CPAs. Review and audit invoices and purchase orders for compliance. Conduct research analysis and interviews to prepare evaluations and recommendations for improvements. Assemble and maintain comprehensive audit working papers supporting audit findings and recommendations. Prepare comprehensive audit reports and reviews detailing findings and recommendations. Assist in the presentation of audit findings and recommendations. What You BringStrong knowledge and application of the theories principles practices of accounting and auditing plus knowledge of the statutory requirements of specific programs and related information technology. Knowledge of professional standards such as generally accepted accounting principles the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (Standards) and or Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS). Experience in accounting especially financial cost accounting. Experience conducting audits such as financial and compliance in accordance with relevant standards. This includes examining invoices contracts journals ledgers computations and other related business documents. Experience interpreting applying policies and or regulations. Computer skills in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word) and knowledge of any job costing system. NoteSome overnight travel for audits and training is required. Management PrefersCertifications working towards certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
